Mangaluru, May 2: In a significant achievement, Mangaluru International Airport has secured three gold awards at the 9th Conclave on Poka Yoke, Jidoka, and SMED, organised by the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI), Bengaluru Chapter.

In collaboration with Updater Services Ltd (UDS), the airport’s teams showcased innovative solutions rooted in the Japanese concept of ‘Poka-Yoke’—a technique focused on mistake-proofing to enhance operational safety and efficiency.

A UDS team led by Sajith E V and Vijayalakshmi earned a gold award for developing a remote-controlled hazard-prevention device designed for high-mast maintenance. Another team comprising Kiran Kumar and Manjunatha was recognised for implementing a PLC-based water level monitoring system, ensuring improved accuracy and reliability.

Additionally, the airport’s Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) department, represented by Ippsita Choudhury and Siddharth Ojha, clinched gold for their Poka-Yoke-based solutions in operations and maintenance, aimed at minimising human error and reducing congestion and downtime in airside operations.

The recognition underscores Mangaluru Airport’s continued commitment to adopting innovative, safety-driven practices and enhancing overall operational efficiency.
