Tehran, May 4: Iran has firmly dismissed reports suggesting it is considering a long-term suspension of uranium enrichment, reiterating that its current diplomatic efforts are solely aimed at ending ongoing regional conflict.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei refuted the claims during a media interaction, stating that such reports are unfounded. Speaking to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, he clarified that Iran’s plan contains no provisions related to nuclear activities.
“Our proposal is entirely focused on ending the war. There are no nuclear elements included,” Baqaei said, dismissing speculation about a potential 15-year halt in uranium enrichment.

He also rejected reports about Iran engaging in mine clearance efforts alongside the United States, calling such claims “imaginary” and not part of any official plan.
According to Baqaei, the current proposal—described as a 14-point plan—centres on de-escalation across the region, including in Lebanon. He noted that references to nuclear negotiations relate only to past diplomatic engagements and are not part of the present framework.
The proposal reportedly includes key demands such as guarantees of non-aggression, withdrawal of US military forces from areas surrounding Iran, lifting of naval blockades, release of frozen Iranian assets, compensation payments, and the removal of sanctions.
Addressing the issue of guarantees, Baqaei emphasised Iran’s reliance on its own capabilities. “Our assurance lies in our own strength and the tools at our disposal,” he stated.
He further confirmed that the United States has responded to Iran’s proposal, and Tehran will issue its reply after a thorough review of Washington’s position.
