Mamata cries foul, calls Bengal verdict ‘loot’

Daijiworld Media Network - Kolkata

Kolkata, May 4: Mamata Banerjee on Monday strongly criticised the election results in West Bengal, alleging large-scale irregularities and attributing the outcome to “loot”.

Targeting the Election Commission of India, Banerjee termed it the “BJP Commission” after trends showed the Bharatiya Janata Party taking a decisive lead, with her All India Trinamool Congress trailing significantly.

“More than 100 seats BJP looted. The Election Commission is the BJP’s commission. I complained to the Chief Electoral Officer and officials, but they are not doing anything,” she told reporters.

Calling the outcome “immoral”, Banerjee alleged that the results were influenced by the Election Commission, central forces, and the top leadership of the BJP. “Do you think this is a victory? It is an immoral victory, not a moral victory. Whatever has been done is totally illegal. It is loot, loot, loot. We will bounce back,” she said.

The BJP has recorded a major breakthrough in West Bengal, a state where it had struggled to gain power, winning 114 seats and leading in 92 others, according to available trends.

Despite the setback, Banerjee asserted that her party would recover and return stronger in the future.
