Nuh (Haryana), May 5: Five Uttar Pradesh Police personnel lost their lives on Tuesday after a fatal road accident on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway in Nuh district, officials said.

The victims, all posted in Jalaun, were travelling in an SUV when it collided with another vehicle near the Dhulawat toll plaza around 10:30 a.m.

According to police, the black SUV was coming from the Palwal side when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed and lost control, leading to a collision. The vehicle overturned and was left severely mangled, trapping all five occupants inside.

Officials from the Tauru Sadar police station confirmed that all deceased were serving police personnel from Uttar Pradesh. The authorities have informed senior officers in Jalaun and begun formal identification procedures.

During rescue operations, emergency teams recovered identity documents from the wreckage, including that of Sub-Inspector Mohit Kumar Yadav, which helped confirm the victims’ identities.

Eyewitnesses and patrol staff reported that the impact caused a loud explosion-like sound, followed by a cloud of dust that briefly halted traffic as other vehicles braked and swerved to avoid further collision.

Rescue teams faced significant difficulty extracting the bodies due to the extent of damage to the SUV. Cranes were later deployed to remove the wreckage and restore traffic flow on the expressway.

An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the accident, including possible speeding and overtaking errors.
