Guwahati, May 6: The National Democratic Alliance government in Assam is expected to be sworn in for a third consecutive term on May 12, following a decisive victory in the recent Assembly elections, according to official sources.
Preparations are underway in the state capital, with the NDA Legislature Party meeting scheduled for May 10 at 10 a.m. in Guwahati. At this meeting, alliance legislators are likely to formally elect their leader before staking claim to form the new government.
All winning NDA candidates have been directed to reach Guwahati by May 9 ahead of the leadership meeting and subsequent formalities related to government formation.

Senior national leaders, including J.P. Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, are also expected to attend the events, underscoring the importance of the political transition.
Following the Legislature Party meeting, the NDA is expected to approach Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on the evening of May 10 to formally stake claim to form the government.
The alliance’s victory has cleared the path for incumbent Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to return to power for another term. Speaking earlier, Sarma confirmed that he had submitted his resignation along with that of his Council of Ministers after the election results were officially notified by the Election Commission.
He also recommended the dissolution of the current Assam Legislative Assembly, following constitutional convention. The Governor accepted the resignation and asked the outgoing government to continue in a caretaker capacity until the new ministry is sworn in.
Sarma stated that the caretaker arrangement would remain in place until the new government is formally constituted after May 11, completing all procedural requirements for a smooth transition of power.
