New Delhi, May 6: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on Wednesday reaffirmed that India will continue its ban on bilateral sporting engagements with Pakistan, while permitting participation in international and multilateral competitions.
In an official circular issued to the Indian Olympic Association, Sports Authority of India, and various national sports federations, the ministry clarified that Indian teams will not travel to Pakistan for bilateral events, nor will Pakistani teams be hosted in India for such contests.

However, the policy makes a clear distinction for global tournaments. It stated that both Indian and Pakistani athletes will continue to compete in multilateral events—whether held in India or abroad—following the norms of international sporting bodies and keeping athletes’ interests in mind.
The move comes as India prepares to host several major international competitions, including the Commonwealth Games 2030, the ICC Champions Trophy 2029, and the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2031. The country has also bid for the Olympic Games 2036 and expressed interest in hosting the Asian Games 2038.
Emphasising its ambition to become a global sports hub, the ministry also announced plans to simplify visa procedures for athletes, officials, and representatives of international governing bodies. Multi-entry visas of up to five years will be issued on a priority basis to officials, facilitating easier movement and participation.
The ministry added that standard diplomatic protocols and courtesies will be extended to visiting heads of international sports organisations, aligning with global practices as India strengthens its position as a host for major sporting events.
