New Delhi, May 7: The Indian Embassy in Lebanon has facilitated the return of five Indian nationals to India and thanked Lebanese authorities for their cooperation in ensuring a smooth exit process.

In a post shared on X, the Embassy of India in Beirut said it had successfully assisted the Indian nationals in returning home.

“The Embassy of India in Beirut has successfully facilitated the return of 5 Indian nationals to India. Our sincere thanks to the Lebanese authorities for their cooperation and support in facilitating their smooth exit,” the Embassy stated.

Earlier, on April 15, Indian Ambassador to Lebanon Noor Rahman Sheikh met Major General Hassan Choucair, Director General of Lebanon’s General Security Department, to discuss matters related to the welfare of the Indian community and bilateral cooperation.

The Embassy said the discussions focused on issues of mutual interest, including cooperation in capacity building and ensuring the welfare and safety of Indians residing in Lebanon.

The Indian mission had earlier also assisted in the repatriation of Indian nationals from the country. On March 11, Ambassador Noor Rahman Sheikh saw off the first batch of 177 Indian nationals at Beirut International Airport as they departed for Delhi on a chartered flight arranged by their company.

The Embassy reiterated its commitment to extending all possible assistance to Indian citizens in Lebanon amid the evolving regional security situation.

Meanwhile, tensions continue in parts of Lebanon following Israeli air attacks on southern and eastern regions of the country. According to reports, at least 13 people were killed and more than 12 injured in recent strikes despite a ceasefire reportedly brokered last month.

One of the strikes in the town of Zellaya in eastern Lebanon reportedly killed four people and injured three others.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) earlier stated that it had targeted Hezbollah infrastructure and weapons storage facilities, claiming that Hezbollah operatives had launched anti-tank missiles from the area.

In a statement posted on X, the IDF said its troops had dismantled explosives and struck several Hezbollah-linked sites, including weapons depots containing anti-tank missiles and explosive devices.
