Srinagar, May 7: Marking the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha paid tribute to the courage and dedication of India’s armed forces, praising their decisive response to threats against the nation.

According to an official statement, the lieutenant governor described Operation Sindoor as a symbol of India’s unwavering determination to defend its sovereignty and protect innocent lives. He said the operation reflected the extraordinary bravery and commitment of the men and women in uniform who responded strongly after terrorists targeted civilians in Pahalgam.

He emphasized that the mission stands as a clear message that India remains firmly committed to eliminating terrorism and ensuring lasting peace and security in Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation was launched after Pakistan-backed terrorists linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba carried out a deadly attack in the Baisaran meadow area of Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. The assault claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local pony owner, triggering nationwide outrage.

Following the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi authorized the armed forces to take strong action against terror networks. In response, Indian forces conducted precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure located in Muridke near Lahore, Bahawalpur, and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Tensions later intensified along the Line of Control as Pakistan launched attacks targeting both military positions and civilian areas in Jammu and Kashmir. In the cross-border shelling in Poonch district, 14 civilians, including a senior government official, lost their lives. Several places of worship, including a mosque, temple, gurdwara, and church, were also damaged during the attacks.

India retaliated by striking multiple defence installations inside Pakistan, reportedly damaging 18 strategic sites. The Indian government also suspended the implementation of the 1960 Indus Water Treaty and restricted the flow of river water allocated to Pakistan under the agreement.

Although active military operations under Operation Sindoor have currently been paused, officials clarified that the mission has not been formally concluded.
