Bantwal: Burglars break into house, decamp with gold, cash and silver idol

Bantwal, May 8: Burglars broke into a house belonging to Prakash, a resident of Goremar near Pacchinadka here, by breaking the latch of the front door and stole gold ornaments, cash, and a silver idol in an incident reported under the jurisdiction of the Bantwal Town police station on Thursday.

According to the complaint, the thieves entered the house and stole three pairs of gold earrings weighing around 16 grams and three gold rings weighing around 18 grams, collectively valued at approximately Rs 4.13 lac, from a locker kept inside a cupboard in the house. They also decamped with Rs 65,000 in cash.

In addition, the burglars allegedly stole a silver idol of Lord Krishna worth around Rs 20,000 kept in the prayer room, along with approximately Rs 5,000 cash from the offering box.

Police said that Prakash was employed at a bakery in Kerala and used to visit his hometown once a month. Since schools were closed for holidays, his wife and children had gone to Shivamogga. The incident came to light after a neighbour noticed that the front door of the house was open and informed the family.

Town police inspector Anantha Padmanabha and fingerprint experts visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
