New Delhi, May 8: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the historic Somnath temple in Gujarat on May 11 to mark the 75th anniversary of the reopening of the reconstructed shrine by India’s first President Dr Rajendra Prasad in 1951.
Sharing the announcement on social media platform X, Modi described Somnath as a symbol of India’s resilience, cultural heritage and spiritual strength.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to leaders including Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Ahilyabai Holkar for their contributions towards rebuilding and preserving the temple through history.
Modi also announced that special pujas and spiritual programmes would be conducted at the Somnath temple for the next 1,000 days as part of the commemorative celebrations.
Inviting devotees and visitors from across the country, he described the temple as a living symbol of national unity, faith and civilisational continuity.
Located on the western coast of Gujarat, the Somnath temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva and holds immense religious and historical significance in India.
The temple has been rebuilt several times over centuries following repeated invasions and destruction, making it a prominent symbol of cultural endurance and restoration.
