Iran demands end to hostilities and sanctions relief in fresh proposal to US

Tehran, May 11: Iran has reportedly submitted a new draft proposal to the United States calling for an immediate halt to military conflict, guarantees against future attacks on Iranian territory, and the removal of American sanctions and maritime restrictions, according to reports published by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.

Citing an informed source, the agency said the proposal stresses the need for a complete ceasefire across all fronts and seeks assurances that no further “aggression” would be carried out against Iran under any future political agreement.

The draft also reportedly includes demands for the United States to lift sanctions on Iranian oil exports within 30 days of a preliminary agreement and release Iranian financial assets that have remained frozen abroad.

Tensions between the two countries escalated sharply following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel on Tehran and several other Iranian cities on February 28. The attacks reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, along with senior officials and civilians.

Iran later retaliated with missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli positions and American interests in the region. The country also tightened its control over the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, increasing concerns over global energy security.

A ceasefire eventually came into effect on April 8, followed by indirect talks between Iranian and American delegations held in Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 11 and 12. However, the negotiations concluded without a formal breakthrough. In the aftermath, the United States reportedly imposed its own blockade measures around the Strait of Hormuz.

Reports indicate that both sides have continued exchanging proposals through diplomatic channels in Pakistan over recent weeks in an effort to negotiate an end to the conflict.

Earlier on Sunday, Iran’s official news agency Islamic Republic News Agency stated that Tehran’s latest response to the US proposal had been formally delivered to Pakistan.

Reacting to the development, US President Donald Trump criticized Iran’s response in a post on his Truth Social platform, describing it as “totally unacceptable,” though he did not provide further details.

At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated Washington’s position that any lasting peace agreement would require Iran to clearly demonstrate that it is not pursuing nuclear weapons capabilities.
