Tehran, May 11: Iran has defended its response to the latest United States proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, saying its demands were “reasonable” and not excessive.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Tehran’s proposal focused on protecting Iran’s legitimate rights and ensuring regional stability.
Baghaei rejected criticism from the United States and accused Washington of continuing to pursue “unreasonable” and one-sided demands during negotiations.

“We did not demand any concessions. The only thing we have demanded is Iran’s legitimate rights,” Baghaei said.
According to Iranian officials, Tehran’s proposal includes ending hostilities, lifting blockades, stopping what it described as maritime piracy against Iranian vessels, releasing frozen Iranian assets and ensuring secure passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Baghaei also said Iran’s proposals were aimed not only at protecting national interests but also at ensuring wider regional security and stability.
The remarks came after US President Donald Trump described Iran’s response to the latest American peace proposal as “totally unacceptable”.
Reports said the ongoing negotiations remain deadlocked over issues including sanctions relief, control and security arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s nuclear programme.
