Dharma Jyothi Social Centre hosts summer camp and awareness programmes at Beltangady Jnana Nilaya

Beltangady, May 13: Dharma Jyothi Social Centre organised a summer camp and a series of awareness programmes at Jnana Nilaya, Beltangady, on May 12, bringing together children, parents and educators for interactive learning sessions and value-based activities.

The summer camp was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp in the presence of several dignitaries, including Sr Veera Monis, director of Dharma Jyothi Social Centre, Fr Binoy AJ, director of Dakshina Kannada Rural Development Society, Beltangady, Dr T Krishnamurthy, retired principal of SDM College, Ujire, and Hemavathi K, zonal trainer, JCI India. Speaking on the occasion, Fr Binoy AJ highlighted the importance of the programme and extended his best wishes, while Dr T Krishnamurthy engaged the children with life skills-based learning through activities. Various action songs and interactive exercises were also conducted, helping children experience enthusiasm, joy and value-based learning. A total of 135 children benefited from the camp.

On the same day, an awareness programme on the role of parents in the upbringing of children was held at the venue, with Dr T Krishnamurthy serving as the resource person. Through interactive sessions, he explained the importance of parental responsibility in shaping a child’s future and noted that while children’s character is not known at birth, it develops based on the care, guidance and values instilled by parents. A total of 65 parents participated in the programme and benefited from the session.

Another awareness programme focusing on personal hygiene was also organised by Dharma Jyothi Social Centre with the aim of educating children on maintaining cleanliness and healthy habits in daily life. Staff member Renita Lewis conducted the session through simple demonstrations and interactive activities, explaining the importance of regular handwashing, personal cleanliness, maintaining hygienic surroundings and adopting healthy routines. A total of 45 lower and higher primary school children attended the programme and gained valuable insights from the session.
