Jalandhar, May 14: In an inspiring example of hard work and determination, 18-year-old Gurpreet Singh, who works as an electrician to support his family, has secured the second rank in Jalandhar district in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class 12 examinations.
The results were announced on Wednesday.
A student of the School of Eminence in Kartarpur, Gurpreet scored an outstanding 486 out of 500 marks, securing 97.2 per cent overall.

Coming from a modest background, Gurpreet started working as an electrician nearly three years ago to help his family financially. His father works as a labourer while his mother is a homemaker.
The teenager earns nearly Rs 12,000 per month through electrical work, which helps cover household expenses and educational costs.
Despite balancing studies and work, Gurpreet maintained academic excellence. His marks include 90 in Elements of Electrical Technology, 89 in Materials and Workshop Practice, 87 in Electrical Domestic Appliances, 98 in Punjabi and 92 in English.
Sharing his daily routine, Gurpreet said he attended school during the day and worked in the evenings, often returning home late at night.
“Sometimes I returned at 9 pm and sometimes close to midnight depending on work. Even after that, I tried to study for at least one or two hours whenever I could,” he said.
He added that he concentrated on understanding subjects clearly rather than memorising lessons and remained attentive during classroom sessions to make the most of his studies.
Alongside academics, Gurpreet is also pursuing vocational training in electrical work to strengthen his practical skills.
He said his immediate aim is to complete a diploma in electrical studies and later prepare for government job examinations to secure a stable future.
“I always believed that education is the only way to improve life. No matter how difficult things became, I never let myself move away from studies,” Gurpreet said.
