Bharatpur, May 15: Nikhil Sharma (23), a promising youth from Kalsada village in Bayana tehsil of Bharatpur, has brought laurels to his village and district by securing the 104th rank in the prestigious Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2024. Remarkably, he achieved this feat while currently undergoing training as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
This was Nikhil's second attempt at the competitive exam. In his first attempt, he secured the 252nd rank and was selected for the IPS. With a significantly improved rank this time, the option to join the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) has opened up for him. Currently, he is engaged in a special training programme along the Indo-Tibetan border.

Nikhil hails from an educated family. His father, Gopal Sharma, is a retired teacher, while his elder brother, Narendra Sharma, serves as a probationary officer in a bank.
Self-prepared notes
Nikhil completed his early education in Kota, where he passed his 12th grade before earning a BSc degree in biology. Joining the administrative services had been his childhood dream, which became the sole focus of his UPSC preparations.
Despite the rigorous and demanding schedule of his IPS training, Nikhil exhibited excellent time management skills to continue his studies. He relied heavily on self-prepared notes and ensured he revised them regularly. His optional subject for the mains examination was botany.
Credits parents for success
Nikhil dedicated his success to his parents. He emphasised that his family's continuous support, coupled with his patience, hard work, and unwavering dedication to the goal, were the keys to his success.
His remarkable achievement serves as a strong source of inspiration for the youth in the region, proving that with firm determination, no goal is insurmountable.
