Mangaluru: Repeat offender held with Rs 1.56 lac worth of ganja near Maryhill helipad

Mangaluru, May 15: In a major anti-narcotics operation, police arrested a 26-year-old habitual offender and seized 3.138 kg of ganja valued at approximately Rs 1.56 lac near the Maryhill Helipad grounds under the jurisdiction of Kavoor police station.

The accused has been identified as Irshad alias Irsha, a resident of Hilari Nagar in Mukkacheri, Ullal.

Acting on credible intelligence, a joint police team led by the Panambur ACP squad along with personnel from Kavoor police station conducted a swift raid at the location and apprehended the accused on the spot.

During the operation, police recovered approximately 3 kg 138 grams of ganja, estimated to be worth Rs 1,56,000 in the illegal market. Officers also seized a mobile phone and a scooter allegedly used for transporting the narcotic substance.

Police sources revealed that the accused has an extensive criminal background and is no stranger to law enforcement agencies. He was previously booked at Ullal police station in connection with an attempt-to-murder case and offences registered under the Arms Act.

He had also earlier been named in a narcotics trafficking case registered under the NDPS Act at the Coastal Security Police Station for allegedly selling banned substances.

“A fresh case has now been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at Kavoor police station, and further legal proceedings are under way,” the office of the Mangaluru City police commissioner said in an official statement.
