Madurai, May 18: In a tragic road accident that has stunned residents across Tamil Nadu, five members of a single family lost their lives after their car rammed into a roadside safety barrier near Ayyapatti on the Melur four-lane highway late on Sunday night.
The victims, including three women, were returning to Madurai after visiting the renowned Samayapuram Mariamman Temple in Tiruchirappalli when the fatal crash occurred. According to preliminary police findings, the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle while travelling on the highway, causing the car to smash into the concrete side wall with tremendous force.

The impact completely wrecked the vehicle, leaving all five occupants dead at the scene. Police identified two of the deceased as Prakash, a resident of Anna Nagar in Madurai, and his relative Ramesh. The identities of the three women victims have not yet been officially released as authorities continue formal procedures and inform extended family members.

The bodies were later taken to Melur Government Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Officials are examining several possible causes, including speeding, driver exhaustion, mechanical issues, and loss of vehicle control.
