CCTV footage surfaces in Bhopal dowry death case

Bhopal, May 18: CCTV footage has emerged in the alleged dowry death case of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma, showing her walking towards the rooftop of her house shortly before her death and later being carried downstairs by her husband and two others.

According to footage accessed by media reports, Twisha is seen climbing the stairs towards the terrace of her residence in Katara Hills in Bhopal. Nearly an hour later, her husband Samarth Singh and two men are seen carrying her body downstairs.

The visuals also reportedly show attempts to administer CPR to Twisha on the staircase moments after she was brought down.

Twisha’s family has informed police about an alleged timing discrepancy in the CCTV system, claiming the footage was from May 12 and not May 10 as displayed.

The case has triggered outrage in Madhya Pradesh after Twisha’s family accused her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment and murder. A Special Investigation Team has been formed to probe the allegations.

Twisha, who married Samarth Singh in December 2025 after reportedly meeting him through a dating application, was found hanging at her marital home on May 12.

While Samarth Singh remains absconding, a local court has reserved its order on his anticipatory bail plea. His mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, has already secured anticipatory bail.

ACP Rajneesh Kashyap Kaul said a reward of Rs 10,000 had been announced for information leading to Samarth Singh’s arrest.

“Several teams have been deployed to catch the accused Samarth Singh. Correspondence has also been sent to the passport office so that constitutional action can be taken,” the officer said.

Police said the preliminary post-mortem report from AIIMS Bhopal indicated death due to hanging.

The case took another turn after details from Samarth Singh’s bail application surfaced publicly. The plea alleged that Twisha suffered from psychiatric issues, was undergoing counselling and had a history of substance abuse. It also denied allegations of dowry harassment and claimed her in-laws had financially supported her through regular online transfers.

Twisha’s family rejected the allegations and accused the accused side of attempting to malign her image after death.

WhatsApp chats reportedly accessed by media outlets showed Twisha pleading with her mother to “take me away from here”.

“I am very disturbed these people are very horrible. They keep suspecting me. Samarth asks whose child is in my womb,” one message allegedly sent by Twisha stated.

In another message, she reportedly wrote, “My life has become hell.”

Twisha’s family recently staged a protest outside the residence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav demanding a second post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi, alleging that the local investigation had been compromised.

The SIT is currently probing allegations of dowry harassment, physical assault and possible destruction of evidence.

As the husband remains missing and new evidence continues to emerge, the case has drawn widespread attention across the state.
