Mangaluru, May 20: St Aloysius Pre-University College organised a three-day staff enrichment programme ahead of the commencement of classes, with the objective of equipping its staff with the skills and insights required to effectively respond to the evolving demands of contemporary education.
The programme commenced with a session by Fr Fredrick D’Silva SJ on ‘Ignatian Spirituality as the Basis for Jesuit Education'. He explained how St Ignatius envisioned education as a means of transforming society through the transformation of individuals. Emphasising that every individual possesses unique potential, he highlighted the role of Jesuit education in nurturing students into compassionate and socially responsible individuals committed to serving others and contributing meaningfully to society.











































Fr Henry Saldanha SJ, superior, Asha Kiran, conducted a session on mentoring Gen Alpha learners. He discussed the challenges faced by the present generation, describing them as digitally connected, yet socially disconnected and emotionally vulnerable. He elaborated on issues such as compulsiveness, poor coping skills, and lack of emotional resilience, while also guiding teachers on identifying warning signs and supporting students through empathetic care and mentorship.
Dr Ruban S, dean of the School of Engineering, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), addressed the staff on ‘Integration of AI Tools in Modern Teaching Techniques.’ He explained the effective and mindful use of AI in education, highlighting how AI tools can enhance classroom interaction, reduce clerical workload, and save time. He also demonstrated several freely available AI tools useful for educators and cautioned the staff against the misuse of personal data due to increasing cyber fraud and scams.
Sessions on team building and conflict management were conducted by Shavina Soans and Sudhesh Bangera respectively. Shavina, soft skills trainer at ICAI, Mangalore, engaged the staff in interactive activities focused on classroom engagement and understanding diverse learners. She encouraged teachers to approach students with empathy and emphasised the importance of creating a supportive learning environment.
Sudhesh Bangera, soft skills and corporate trainer and entrepreneur, conducted an engaging session titled ‘From Differences to Direction,’ focusing on conflict management. He explained the triggers and root causes of conflicts through the 4-P Framework and introduced strategies such as the SAY Renegotiation Tool to facilitate healthy communication and boundary-setting. He also addressed conflict with authority and self, encouraging participants to reflect on their personal and professional growth.
A special session for probationary staff was conducted by the campus minister, Fr Anthony Derrick, on Jesuit Education. Through interactive discussions and reflective activities, he emphasised key Jesuit ideals such as Magis and the formation of conscience, inspiring educators to nurture compassionate, morally grounded, and responsible students.
The three-day staff enrichment programme proved to be enriching and inspiring, rejuvenating the staff and preparing them to begin the academic year with renewed enthusiasm and commitment.
