Udupi, May 31: Acting on public complaints regarding the deliberate delay in clearing hundreds of documents, the raid at the Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) office, led by Lokayukta DySP Halamurthy Rao, continued into its second day on Saturday, yielding more withheld files.
The raid commenced on Friday at 3 pm, with the Lokayukta DySP, accompanied by two inspectors and 16 staff members, conducting operations until 10:30 pm. During this initial phase, they discovered 200 files that had been kept pending without any valid reason.

The search resumed on Saturday from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, leading to the unearthing of an additional 60 files.
Over the course of the two-day operation, the officials have seized a total of 260 unnecessarily delayed files dating back to 2024 and 2025. In addition to these, the raiding team also identified 74 suspicious files involving blatant rule violations.
Irregularities and spot inspection failures
The investigation has brought to light severe irregularities, including instances where officials granted approvals for single layouts, major layouts, and land conversions without conducting the mandatory spot inspections. These specific violations are currently slated for further investigation.
Suspecting that the massive backlog was created intentionally to demand bribes or for other ulterior motives, Lokayukta DySP Halamurthy Rao stated that an intense inquiry will be conducted against the concerned officers and staff members to determine the exact intent behind the deliberate delays.
