Mangaluru, Jun 6: Two accused persons who had allegedly been evading arrest and repeatedly failing to appear before court despite the issuance of non-bailable warrants have been arrested by Mangaluru East Police in separate cases pending before a local court.
The arrested men have been identified as Srinivasa Sirayan (56), son of late Rangaswamy C R, a resident of Channarayapatna taluk in Hassan district, and Upendra D C alias Abhishek (28), son of Chandregowda, a resident of Doddagavanahalli village in Arakalagudu taluk of Hassan district.

According to police, Srinivasa Sirayan is an accused in Mangaluru East police station Crime No. 152/2017. The case, registered under Sections 3(1), 3(22), 4 and 9 of the relevant Act, is currently under trial before the 6th Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Mangaluru and is listed as C C No 1108/2025.
Police said the court had issued non-bailable warrants against him on several occasions after he repeatedly failed to appear for the proceedings.
In a separate case, Upendra D C alias Abhishek is facing trial in connection with Mangaluru East police station Crime No. 102/2019 registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code relating to theft.
The case is pending before the 6th JMFC Court, Mangaluru, as C C No. 815/2021. Police said multiple non-bailable warrants had also been issued against him after he failed to respond to repeated court summons and remain present for the trial.
Both accused had remained untraceable for a considerable period and had allegedly gone into hiding to avoid arrest and court proceedings. Despite repeated efforts to secure their presence before the court, they continued to evade the legal process, prompting the issuance of warrants.
Acting on specific leads, officers and personnel attached to Mangaluru East police station launched efforts to trace the accused and successfully apprehended both men on June 6.
Following their arrest, police registered fresh cases against the duo under Section 269 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for failing to appear before the court despite the issuance of warrants and for absconding from the judicial process.
Police said the accused are being produced before the competent court for further legal proceedings.
