New Delhi, Jun 10: In a major boost to India's artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure ambitions, Meta has partnered with Reliance Industries Limited to establish its first AI-enabled data centre in India at Jamnagar in Gujarat.
Under the partnership, Reliance will develop a 168-megawatt data centre, which Meta will lease upon completion. The facility is expected to be delivered within two years and includes provisions for future capacity expansion as demand grows.
Reliance will provide end-to-end services across the data centre's lifecycle, including design, construction, utility management, renewable energy supply, network connectivity and managed services.

The project marks a significant expansion of the strategic relationship between Meta and Reliance. In August 2025, the two companies formed a $100 million joint venture aimed at developing AI solutions for enterprises in India and select international markets. Under the agreement, the venture received an initial investment commitment of Rs 855 crore, with Reliance contributing 70 per cent and Meta the remaining 30 per cent.
Meta had earlier invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms in 2020, acquiring a 9.99 per cent stake in the company.
Reliance Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh D Ambani described the partnership as a transformative milestone for India's digital infrastructure.
“This partnership with Meta marks a transformative moment for India's digital infrastructure. Building India's first built-to-suit data centre for a global technology leader of Meta's scale demonstrates India's readiness to be at the forefront of the global AI revolution,” Ambani said.
He added that Reliance remains committed to creating world-class digital infrastructure capable of supporting the next generation of AI innovation.
“Jamnagar will become a landmark destination for hyperscale AI computing, and we are proud to partner with Meta to make this vision a reality,” he said.
According to Reliance, the Jamnagar location offers several advantages, including access to renewable energy, water availability, proximity to India's western submarine cable landing stations and connectivity through Jio's extensive fibre network. The facility will run on renewable energy and use desalinated seawater for cooling.
Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company was pleased to deepen its investment in India through the project.
“We're proud to be working with Reliance to build our first AI-enabled data centre in India. This world-class facility in Jamnagar will help us scale our AI infrastructure globally while deepening our long-term investment in India's economy,” Zuckerberg said.
The announcement comes as the Indian government intensifies efforts to position the country as a global hub for digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence.
Meanwhile, rival Google had announced plans in October 2025 to invest $15 billion over the next five years to establish a large-scale AI hub in Visakhapatnam, marking the company's largest investment outside the United States. Groundbreaking for the project was held on April 28.
