Mangaluru, Jun 20: A week-long free health check-up camp for the members of the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association and their family members was inaugurated on Saturday, June 20, at Srinivas Hospital, Mukka, under the theme “Caring for Those Who Care for Society.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr David Rosario, medical superintendent of Srinivas Hospital, stated that safeguarding the health of journalists, who are regarded as the fourth pillar of democracy, is a social responsibility. He expressed happiness at getting the opportunity to collaborate with the Journalists’ Association in this service initiative. He also assured that the hospital is ready to extend all possible support to journalists in the future, including the provision of special health cards for their healthcare needs.

Addressing the gathering, Pushparaj B N, president of the Working Journalists’ Association, said that journalists, photographers, and television cameramen often have to perform their duties round the clock without regard to time or circumstances.
In the constant rush to gather and report news, they frequently neglect their own health, which is also unfair to their families. Recognising this reality, the Association, in collaboration with Srinivas Hospital, organised the free health check-up camp. He urged all journalists in the district to make use of the camp, which will be held from June 20 to 27.
He also expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Association to Dr A Srinivas Rao, chancellor of Srinivas University, for responding promptly to their request and facilitating the implementation of this initiative for the welfare of journalists. He further thanked the hospital management and medical team for their service-oriented support.
Harish Rai, president of the Mangaluru Press Club, noted that the A Shama Rao Foundation has been carrying out numerous socially beneficial activities with a spirit of service, which cannot be forgotten. He appreciated Srinivas Hospital for joining hands with the Journalists’ Association and providing comprehensive support for the free health check-ups of journalists and their family members.
Among those present were Dr K Satyanarayana Reddy, vice-chancellor Srinivas University, Harish Rai, president, Mangaluru Press Club, Rajesh K Poojary, general secretary of the Association, Srinivasa Indaje, state representative of the Working Journalists' Association, Dr Anil Kumar, registrar of Srinivas University; Dr Uday Kumar Rao, dean of Srinivas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre; Dr David Rosario, medical superintendent of Srinivas Hospital; senior doctors of the hospital; and members of the administrative staff.
