Puttur, Jun 30: Preventive action has been initiated against a 45-year-old man who allegedly argued with police personnel during a late-night patrol after objecting to the closure of a hotel operating beyond permitted hours in Kabaka.
According to a police press release, at around 10.30 pm on June 18, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Chandra, along with police staff member Astam, was on night patrol within the Puttur Town police station limits when they reached Kabaka Junction. They found K S Alfha Corner, a hotel owned by Mohammed Asif, open for business. The hotel staff were instructed to close the establishment within the stipulated time, following which the officers left the spot.

Later, at around 1.30 am, ASI Chandra, along with police sub-inspector (PSI) Suresh, who was the sub-divisional night patrol officer, and police staff member Astam, returned to the same location during patrol duty. They found the hotel still open, with three customers seated there.
The officers informed the hotel staff that operating the establishment late into the night was a violation of the law and directed them to close it immediately. At this point, one of the three customers, identified as Ujwal Kumar Prabhu (45), a resident of Kabaka, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, objected to the closure of the hotel and allegedly engaged in an argument with the police personnel on patrol.
PSI Suresh counselled him about the legal provisions, ensured that the hotel was closed, and then left the spot. The police personnel on duty also recorded the argument on a mobile phone.
Police said that two previous cases had already been registered against Ujwal Kumar Prabhu at the Puttur Town Police Station. Following the latest incident, preventive action has been initiated against him under Preventive Action Report No. 127/2026.
The police also stated that the hotel, which was operating unauthorisedly after the expiry of its permitted operating hours, was closed.
PSI Suresh has been issued a warning for failing to inform his superior officers about the incident and for not handling the situation professionally.
