Chennai, Jul 17: The makers of director Krishnakumar Ramakumar's much-anticipated period drama 'GDN', starring R. Madhavan in the lead role, have announced that the film will release in theatres worldwide on August 7.
Sharing the release date on social media, production banner Varghese Moolans Pictures wrote, "Story of a man driven by passion... fueled by legacy. #GDN releases worldwide on August 7."
The film is a biographical drama based on the life of celebrated Indian inventor, industrialist, agriculturist and philanthropist G.D. Naidu, widely remembered as the "Edison of India" for his pioneering contributions to science and industry.

Earlier this month, the makers unveiled the film's trailer at a grand event held at Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore, G.D. Naidu's hometown. The launch was attended by the film's cast and crew, along with members of Naidu's family.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the extraordinary life of the visionary inventor, portraying both his achievements and the controversies that surrounded him. It opens with references to an incident in which G.D. Naidu allegedly demolished one of his own buildings, prompting speculation about his mental state, before introducing his character and his remarkable rise to prominence.
The preview highlights Naidu's success in building the United Motor Service (UMS) transport network and establishing a polytechnic engineering institution, while also depicting the resistance he faced from rivals and colonial authorities.
Jayaram appears as the antagonist Krishnan, a powerful figure who questions Naidu's financial dealings and seeks to undermine his reputation. The trailer also shows British officials and Naidu's opponents allegedly plotting to implicate him through fabricated charges, including accusations related to counterfeit currency and later, treason over alleged links with Nazi Germany.
As the narrative unfolds, the trailer portrays G.D. Naidu as an honest taxpayer who challenged the authorities only after what he believed were unfair taxation practices imposed on him.
The trailer concludes with a powerful dialogue delivered by Aditi Balan's character, reflecting on courage and the importance of telling history from the perspective of those who fought against injustice.
Apart from Madhavan, 'GDN' features Jayaram, Priyamani, Dushara Vijayan, Sathyaraj, Aditi Balan and Vinay Rai in prominent roles. The film's music has been composed by Govind Vasantha, while Aravind Kamalanathan has handled the cinematography.
