Coimbatore, Nov 3: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) has intensified its crackdown on unauthorised posters, banners and advertising hoardings across the city, imposing fines totalling Rs 11,68,300 since June this year.

The civic body has prohibited the unauthorised pasting of posters and installation of banners and advertisement boards along major roads, at junctions, near government offices, on public walls and at other prominent public places.

According to corporation officials, unauthorised advertisements put up by commercial establishments, private organisations and event organisers have become a growing concern. Apart from damaging the city's appearance, such displays can distract motorists and pedestrians, increasing the risk of road accidents and traffic congestion.

The practice also creates sanitation problems, as torn posters and discarded paper materials accumulate along roadsides, affecting cleanliness and potentially posing public health concerns.

To curb the practice, enforcement teams have been deployed across all five corporation zones to identify violations and take action against those responsible. Officials are conducting regular inspections and imposing penalties on individuals and organisations found displaying advertisements without the required permission.

The corporation has urged shop owners, business establishments, private organisations, event organisers and members of the public to obtain the necessary approvals before installing advertisements in public spaces.

CCMC Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja warned that strict action would be initiated against violators. Apart from imposing fines, the corporation will remove unauthorised posters, banners and advertising boards displayed in violation of regulations.

The civic body has appealed to residents and commercial establishments to cooperate with the authorities in maintaining clean, safe and obstruction-free public spaces across Coimbatore.
