Mumbai, Aug 8: A birthday celebration on a public road in Mumbai's Borivali West turned into a police case after a group of men allegedly blocked traffic, cut a cake on the bonnet of a car and fired an airgun into the air.

The incident reportedly took place around 12.30 am on Aug 5 near Gharkul Co-operative Housing Society in Gorai-2, Borivali West. A video of the celebration subsequently went viral on social media, prompting the Borivali police to take suo motu action.

According to police and media reports, the group parked an Innova in the middle of the road and gathered around it to celebrate a birthday. The birthday boy was seen cutting multiple cakes placed on the car's bonnet while the group created a commotion on the road, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to residents.

The situation escalated when one of the men allegedly took out a baby airgun and fired it, releasing pellets into the air. The firing caused panic among people in the vicinity and raised concerns over public safety.

After the video surfaced online, Borivali police registered a case against 10 people, including the birthday boy. The main accused, identified in reports as Jatin Sharma, was detained by police. The case includes charges relating to obstruction of public movement and creating a public nuisance, besides the alleged airgun firing.

Police said the group had allegedly occupied the public road for the celebration, resulting in traffic disruption and disturbance to public peace. The viral video became key to the police action.

The incident has once again raised concerns over dangerous birthday celebrations and the use of weapons or weapon-like objects for social media videos and public displays.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the exact role of each of the 10 people involved and determine further legal action.
