Panaji, Aug 21: Petrol E20 vehicles are emerging as the dominant choice among new vehicle buyers in Goa, while electric vehicles are also steadily gaining ground in the state’s automobile market.

Official data shows that Goa has recorded 55,156 vehicle registrations so far in 2026, taking the total number of vehicles registered in the state to 14,95,432.

Of the new registrations this year, 27,898 are petrol E20 vehicles, making them the largest fuel category. This is followed by 6,762 pure electric vehicles and 3,340 diesel vehicles.

Other petrol-based categories have also recorded significant numbers. The state has registered 1,166 electric BOVs, 272 strong hybrid EVs and 1,490 petrol E20/hybrid vehicles.

Two-wheelers continue to dominate new vehicle registrations in Goa. Of the 55,156 vehicles registered this year, 36,404 are non-transport two-wheelers, while another 851 are transport two-wheelers.

Light motor vehicles, which include a substantial number of private cars, account for 14,105 registrations.

Electric mobility in the state appears to be driven largely by two-wheelers. EV dashboard data indicates that around 5,900 of the 7,928 pure electric and electric BOV vehicles sold so far this year are two-wheelers, with the remaining registrations comprising four-wheelers.

Vehicle registrations have fluctuated from month to month during the year. March recorded the highest number so far with 9,177 registrations, followed by January with 8,167 and February with 7,348.

April recorded 7,080 registrations, while 6,346 vehicles were registered in May and 6,832 in June. July saw 6,715 registrations, while August has recorded 3,491 registrations so far.
The state has generated Rs 2,81,71,35,302 in revenue from vehicle registrations and related fees so far this year.

The registration figures indicate a gradual shift in Goa’s vehicle market, with E20-compatible petrol vehicles continuing to dominate while electric vehicles, particularly electric two-wheelers, are gaining a larger presence.
