Mangaluru: Mulki police arrest man for temple donation box theft, recover stolen cash

Mangaluru, Aug 20: The Mulki police have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the theft of a donation box at the Chandramouleshwara temple under the Mulki police station limits and recovered the stolen cash from his possession.

The incident occurred during the midnight hours of August 18. According to the police, the accused allegedly entered the temple through a grille on the roof, turned the CCTV camera away and broke open the lock of the donation box before stealing the cash.

The accused has been identified as Ravikumar alias Ravi H G (20), son of late Gopal, a resident of Ajjimada, Kuberangadi, Sannepulikotte village, Ayyangeri post, Madikeri taluk in Kodagu district.

Following the investigation, Mulki police arrested the accused and recovered Rs 2,195, believed to be the stolen amount, from his possession. He was subsequently produced before the court.

The operation was carried out by the police sub-inspector of the Mulki police station and his team.

Police said the accused has previously been booked in several cases at the Nelamangala rural police station, including cases registered under sections 457 and 380 of the IPC, as well as relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Karnataka Forest Act.
