Mangaluru, Aug 20: Officials from the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department on Thursday inspected a catering vehicle that supplies food to the Vande Bharat Express at the Mangaluru Central railway station.
The officials scrutinized the quality and hygiene of the food served to the passengers, alongside the safety protocols followed during its preparation and transportation. They verified whether the transport vehicle maintained adequate cleanliness, if the food was stored appropriately, and whether all prescribed standards were being strictly followed.

This inspection of the railway catering system comes closely after the state government introduced a QR code system to enable the public to directly register complaints regarding food and drug safety violations.
With a renewed focus on strict compliance with food safety regulations, railway canteens and food served onboard trains are now being brought under the inspection ambit to ensure that passengers receive quality and safe meals.
It may be recalled that health minister U T Khader, while launching the QR code system on Monday, August 17, had announced that special food and drug safety drives would be expanded across the state. He had directed officials to conduct regular inspections at various places, including paying guest (PG) accommodations, hostels, educational institutions, railway canteens, hotels, and the food served on airplanes.
