New Delhi, Sep 3: A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendar Jain in a corruption case related to alleged irregularities in the tendering process of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
Special CBI Judge Dig Vinay Singh of the Rouse Avenue Courts allowed Jain’s bail plea in the case.
Jain, who served as the water minister in the previous AAP-led Delhi government, was arrested last month by the Delhi Police’s Anti-Corruption Branch. The case was registered in 2024, and Jain was remanded to judicial custody on August 19.
The case pertains to alleged large-scale irregularities, manipulation of tender conditions and criminal conspiracy in the awarding of contracts for the augmentation and upgradation of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the Delhi Jal Board.
According to the allegations, the tender conditions included restrictive technical specifications that allegedly favoured a particular technology provider, M/s Euroteck Environment Pvt. Ltd, thereby limiting competition and providing undue advantage to the private firm.
The Anti-Corruption Branch has further alleged that private individuals were in regular communication with public servants and intermediaries as part of an alleged attempt to manipulate the tendering process.
Five other accused persons have also been arrested in connection with the case. They include Udit Prakash Rai, former CEO of the Delhi Jal Board; Ankit Srivastava, a former contractual consultant with the DJB; Nagendra Yadav, proprietor of AN Enterprises; Raja Kumar Kurra, owner of Euroteck Environment Pvt. Ltd; and Pankaj Verma, proprietor of Srijanhar.
The FIR was registered on a complaint filed by the Delhi Government’s Directorate of Vigilance. The accused have been booked under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with sections of the Indian Penal Code relating to cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
The allegations against Jain and the other accused are subject to the ongoing judicial proceedings.
