Bantwal, Oct 10: Sudden heavy winds that swept through Punjalkatte and surrounding areas on Friday evening wreaked havoc, uprooting trees and causing extensive damage to property.
The strong gales brought down tree branches in several parts of Punjalkatte and Puriya. A tree crashed onto the unoccupied house of the late Ranjan in Puriya. Additionally, the sheet roof of a nearby cashew factory was blown away by the fierce winds. A local rubber estate also suffered losses as numerous rubber trees were uprooted.


Traffic was disrupted in several places after broken tree branches blocked the roads. Power supply was severed across the area as branches fell on electric wires, snapping the lines.
The winds also blew off the roof tiles of the primary section at KPS School in Punjalkatte. Several arecanut trees were reported damaged across the region.
For the past few days, the region has been experiencing evening showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. The sudden shift in weather, characterised by fierce winds and thunderstorms, has triggered anxiety among the residents. Bantwal, B C Road, and surrounding areas also witnessed strong winds, heavy rain, and loud thunder on Friday evening.
