Benaulim, Oct 23: A former Benaulim MLA has announced his decision to contest the 2027 Goa Legislative Assembly elections from the Benaulim constituency on the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) ticket, saying he intends to return to the constituency where his political journey began.
In his announcement, the leader said Benaulim held a special place in his political career, as voters had elected him three times and entrusted him with the responsibility of representing them. He expressed gratitude for the support and confidence extended to him by the people over the years.

He said that after shifting his political focus to the Nuvem constituency, he continued to follow developments and public concerns in Benaulim. According to him, many residents believe the constituency has not experienced the level of development and attention they had expected.
The leader said he had received encouragement and requests from residents to return and contest from Benaulim. After considering their appeal, he decided to renew his political commitment to the constituency.
He said his priorities would include improving infrastructure, roads and civic amenities, creating employment and livelihood opportunities, protecting the interests of local residents and promoting responsible development while preserving Benaulim’s identity, environment, heritage and community values.
Emphasising that public office was a responsibility rather than a personal privilege, he said political leadership should remain accountable to the people and focus on addressing their concerns.
He also criticised what he described as leadership driven by personal vision rather than public aspirations, urging voters to assess candidates on their conduct, accountability and commitment to public service.
The leader said he would seek the support of all residents, irrespective of community, religion or political affiliation, and pledged to serve them fairly and without discrimination.
With the 2027 Assembly elections approaching, he said he was placing his record of public service and vision for Benaulim before voters and seeking another mandate to represent the constituency.
