Mangaluru, Oct 31: The body of Daniel G Furtado (65), a resident of Kokrani who went missing after a boat capsized while he was fishing in the Shambhavi river at Badaguhithlu in Bappanadu, was found in the river on Friday October 30.

Daniel, a resident of Kokrani, and his brother Nelson, who resides in Dubai, had ventured into the Shambhavi river in a small boat from near Kokrani on Thursday evening for recreational fishing. At night, near Badaguhithlu in Bappanadu, the fishing net they had cast became entangled in a rock. While they were attempting to pull the net free, the boat capsized, and Daniel went missing after being swept away by the water current. His brother Nelson managed to swim to the riverbank and escaped unharmed.

A search operation was launched on Thursday night, but it did not yield any results. On Friday, a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with the police sub-inspector (PSI) and fire brigade personnel, intensified the search. Daniel's body was found approximately two kilometres from the spot where the boat had capsized.

Daniel had worked abroad and later retired in Mumbai. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
