Kolkata, Nov 4: Dengue cases have increased sharply in West Bengal's Sundarbans region, with Kakdwip Super Specialty Hospital admitting 60 patients in October, nearly double the 35 cases recorded in September.

According to figures reported by Anandabazar, the hospital admitted four dengue patients in July, 14 in August, 35 in September and 60 in October. The rising numbers have raised concern in Kakdwip and other parts of the Sundarbans. However, no dengue-related deaths have been reported at the hospital so far.

Two dengue patients are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. Both are reportedly stable and have no fever. If their condition remains unchanged, they may be discharged within the next one or two days.

Hospital superintendent Krishnendu Roy said none of the dengue patients admitted so far had required transfer to another facility for advanced treatment. He also expressed hope that infections would decline as temperatures begin to fall in November.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal health department has directed municipalities, including Kolkata, district administrations and chief medical officers of health to maintain special vigilance over the dengue situation until November 12.

In the Sundarbans, panchayats and health workers are conducting awareness campaigns to prevent the spread of the infection. Residents are being urged to avoid water stagnation around their homes, prevent mosquito breeding and seek medical attention promptly if they develop fever.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation amid the rising hospital admissions, with surveillance and public-awareness measures being maintained across the region.
