Puttur: Foundation stone for new St Alphonsa Pilgrim Church in Nellyadi on Nov 5

Media Release

Puttur, Nov 4: The foundation stone for the construction of the new church at St Alphonsa Pilgrim Church in Nellyadi will be laid on Thursday, November 5.

The programme will commence with the celebration of the Holy Qurbana at 9 am, followed by a prayer service at 9:45 am. The foundation stone-laying ceremony and blessing of the church premises will take place at 10 am.

The religious ceremonies will be solemnised by Mar James Patteril, bishop of the diocese of Belthangady; Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy, bishop emeritus; and Mar Geevarghese Macariose of the diocese of Puttur.

The existing church building, constructed in 1990, has deteriorated over the years. Considering its age and structural safety, the parish decided to construct a new church. The reconstruction of the church, which has served the faithful for nearly 36 years, has been a long-cherished dream of the Christian community in and around Nellyadi.

The proposed church is envisioned as a spacious place of worship, featuring attractive architecture and modern facilities to meet the spiritual and pastoral needs of future generations.

Distinguished dignitaries from the dioceses, clergy, representatives of various organisations and faithful from the surrounding areas are expected to participate in this significant religious occasion.

Seeking the prayers and wholehearted cooperation of all for the successful completion of this important undertaking, parish priest Fr Shaji Mathew has invited the faithful and well-wishers to join hands in this endeavour.
