Tata Motors Global Sales Up 26 Percent in March


Mumbai, Apr 16 (IANS): Automobile major Tata Motors Group Monday reported an increase of 26 percent in its global sales in March which stood at 139,655 units over the like period of last year.

The company reported a rise of 12 percent in the period under review in its global sales of commercial vehicle brands like Tata, Tata Daewoo and Tata Hispano Carrocera range which stood at 63,791 units.

Passenger vehicle sales last month grew by 41 percent at 75,864 units over the corresponding month of last year.

"Global sales of Tata passenger vehicles and the distribution offtake in India of Fiat cars were at 39,393 units for the month, higher by 32 percent over March 2011," the company said in a statement.

The company's luxury brand Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) sales in the period under review zoomed by 51 percent at 36,471 units over March 2011.

Independently, Land Rover sales in the period rose by 53 percent at 31,128 units while that of Jaguar grew at a healthy pace of 42 percent at 5,343 units.

In terms of cumulative sales for the fiscal, the company reported a rise of 16 percent at 1,252,173 as compared to the corresponding period in 2010-11.

Commercial vehicle sales for the fiscal were up by 17 percent at 599,927 units and that of passenger vehicles were higher by 14 percent at 652,246 units.

"Cumulative sales (for Tata passenger vehicles and the distribution offtake in India of Fiat cars) in the fiscal are at 337,813 numbers, higher by 3 percent over March 2011."

The cumulative sales of the company's luxury brand JLR for the fiscal grew by 29 percent at 314,433 units.

"Cumulative sales of Jaguar are 54,039 numbers, higher by 2 percent, while cumulative sales of Land Rover are 260,394 numbers, higher by 37 percent," the company said.
