Udupi: Athletics Veteran Rama H Shetty Dies in Bangalore

Udupi, Jun 7: Brahmavar Adhikarimane Rama H Shetty (R H Shetty) died recently in Bangalore at the age of 85. He died doing what he most loved, serving his dear cause of athletics, while officiating in Bangalore.


Achievements

He held a state record for 50 km walk that remained unbroken for 15 years.
 
In 1974 he was felicitated by then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for his exceptional service as manager of the Indian team for the first post-war Indo-Pak games where India won an unprecedented amount of medals.
 
He was also the chief judge for the Asian Games held in New Delhi. He was the organizing member and remained the chief course director of the annual ‘Standard Chartered Marathon’ in Mumbai.
 
He served the sport for over 60 years through various positions he held in national and state athletic organizations and as judge and official of the sport.
 
As a founding member of the Bunts Sangha in Mumbai, he served the organization for 50 years in various capacities. He retired from LIC of India as a senior branch manager in Mumbai..
 
He leaves behind his wife Pangala Ariyadi Hossamane Rajeevi Shetty, son Chandrahas Shetty ,and daughters the lata Hegde and Asha Shetty.
