Bangalore, Jun 12: An unique programme, “Shalegagi Navu Neevu,” is being organized by Karnataka’s Primary and Secondary Education Department as part of the plans for image make-over of all Government-run schools in the State on July 5.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, all Ministers, MLAs, MPs, elected representatives of all rural and urban local bodies and officials of the education department would visit government primary and secondary schools in their respective constituencies in the State and discuss steps to be taken to improve facilities in schools and stop student drop-outs.

Karnataka’s Primary and Secondary Education Minister Visveshwara Hege Kageri announced that the campaign would create awareness about Right to Education (RTE) Act among children parents.

Elected representatives would discuss school priorities with the school development monitoring committees, parents, school teachers and children on that day.
The minister said the programme was successfully conducted last year.

''We hope to organise the programme in even bigger scale and more effectively this year,” he said.

The minister also appealed old students of schools and the public donate funds to improve the quality of education in government run schools.

Kageri strongly defended the State Government’s move for introduction of English medium in 340 government schools from this academic year.

The government has not violated 1994 language policy and the Kannada is the medium of instruction for all subjects till 5th class, he contended.
