Bangalore, Aug 3: In a bid to check and crackdown on evasion and non-payment of taxes by various sections of the trade and industry and improve the revenue mobilization efforts of the Commercial Taxes Department, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Friday handed over 24 ''Jagruth" vehicles to the Department.

The 24 Jagruth fleet would help the Department to keep round the clock vigilance over tax payment and enforce tax compliance, he said after handing over the vehicles to the Commercial Taxes Department at a simple function near Vidhana Soudha.
 
The vehicles in the Jagruth fleet are equipped with global positioning system and laptop with internet access for real time and tracking.

The vehicles are fitted with roof-top multi coloured lights for easy and speed movement, he said.

Commercial Taxes Department is one of the major revenue earner for the State Government.
The Jagruth squad compising state-of-art vehicles would receive and act on information regarding non-issuance of bills by traders and would move round the clock in Bangalore.

The ‘Jagruth’ squad would be expanded to other parts of the State later, the Chief Minister said.

Congress opposition leader in the legislative assembly Siddaramaiah, BJP MP P C Mohan and former minister and Shivajinagar Congresds Roshan Baig and Commercial Taxes Commissioner Yogendra Tripathi and other officials were present.
