Bangalore, Aug 4: Ahead of the State BJP Core Committee, which is expected to discuss the demand of the factions owing allegiance to former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and his successor D V Sadananda Gowda for the distribution of key portfolios held by the Lingayat strongman in Karnataka’s present chief minister Jagadish Shettar’s ministry, Yeddyurappa made it clear that he was not aspiring for the State BJP President’s post.

''I do not want to become the State BJP President with K S Eshwarappa joining the Shettar Cabinet as the Deputy Chief Minister," Yeddyurappa said.

The party would select a new and dynamic person to head the State unit, he said.

Yeddyurappa declared that he would tour the drought-affected districts and meet the people.
''It is my duty to get a first-hand account of the problems of the people and farmers and bring to the attention of the government," he said.

He indicated that he planned to start his state-wide tour of the drought affected districts in the second half of this month.

The Lingayat strongman contended that he nurses no ambition to get the State BJP president’s post.

''The party has given me everything. Why should I exert any pressure on the Central leaders?," he asked and said the party high command will take an appropriate decision at the right time.

Yeddyurappa contended that he was happy to serve the party as an ordinary worker. ''The BJP high command will decide about my role and future at the appropriate time," he said.

The BJP national leadership would decide and select the best and most suitable candidate to head the State BJP, he said declining to comment on the demands of the supporters of Sadananda Gowda that their leader should be installed as the State BJP president.
