Udupi, Sep 18: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and JD(S) staged a protest against the UPA government for hiking diesel price and limiting the number of subsidized LPG cylinders at the Clock Tower opposite to service bus stand here on Monday September 16.

Udhaya Kumar Shetty (BJP president) said that a nationwide bandh will be held on September 20 which will be fully supported by the BPJ in the district. He also appealed everyone to support them and stand against the corrupted government.

Katapadi Shankar Poojary, zilla panchayat president said, “This is supposed to be a happy occasion for house wives during the festival occasion. Instead they have stepped to the streets to protest. The congress has already made a record by hiking petrol price for the 13 time; now diesel price is hiked which is directly affecting the poor”. Rashma Shetty said that it is shocking news for the women.

“Let the prime minister speak to the public instead of only listening to Sonia Gandhi”, he added.

Mattar Rathnakar Hegde, advocate, said, “In India, there is no deficiency of natural resources. UPA government is only thinking of money. It is a money making government; the government is corrupt. Why drag poor people into it?”

Lalaji Mendon, MLA, Geethanjali Suvarrna, president for backward union, Barathi Chandra Shekhar, CMC vice president were present during the protest.
