Beltangady: Mentally Ill Santhosh Raped, Killed Sowjanya - SP

Beltangady: Mentally Ill Santhosh Raped, Killed Sowjanya - SP

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (VM)

Beltangady, Oct 14: In connection to the rape and murder of 17-year-old Sowjanya, SP Abhishek Goyal confirmed to Daijiworld that the accused Santhosh Rao from Bajagoli, Karakal was indeed the culprit.

Speaking to Daijiworld over the phone, the SP said that during interrogation Santhosh (34) admitted to both raping and murdering Sowjanya.

When asked about the earlier claim that three to four persons were involved in the incident, the SP said that it was not a gang rape but that Santhosh had done it.

On Santhosh's psychiatric condition, he said that even mentally ill people were capable of committing such a crime.

Santhosh will be produced before the judge on Sunday October 14.

Speaking to the media, SP said that Santhosh revealed the truth while interrogating him with the help of him father and a psychiatrist. He said that there are more chances of him committing the crime all alone as he does not mix with anyone.

As per the information received, Santhosh has done his PU studies in science. He is the second among four sons. His father is a teacher and mother is employed in public sector.

Santhosh also holds black belt in Karate. Sources close to the family said that Santhosh is suffering from mental disorder due to some problem that had occurred in the past. He is undergoing treatment since six years.

He is also accused of attempt to rape in Marnad, sources said.

The familiy of Sowjanya claims that Santhosh is not a victim of mental disorder. They say that he is acting in order to save other culprits. It is learnt that Santhosh, on the day of the incident, had been to a hotel belonging to Sowjanya’s relative and had asked for three meals. This raises the suspicion that there might have been two other persons who accompanied him, the family claims.

Even Mallik Jain, Asith Jain and Suresh Gowda, who caught hold of Santhosh and handed him over to the police claim that there were two other people along with Santhosh.

Due to the attack by locals on Santhosh, he has several injuries all over his body, due to which medical investigation is being delayed and hindered. The doctors are finding it difficult to distinguish between the injuries which took place during the murder and the attack.

Police claim locals have created hindrance in the investigation and say that they should cooperate.

When police took Santhosh to the crime spot, he is said to have shown the exact spot, said police sources.

The post-mortem report has been obtained but it is possible to give the details of the incident only after the report from forensic labs is out.

Many politicians visited Sowjanya’s house to express condolence to the family. Janardhan Poojary, former minister promised the family a compensation of Rs 1 lac on behalf of Gokarnanatheshwar Temple trust and many others promised monetary help to them.

Vinay Kumar Sorake, Ivan D’Souza, Rajashekar, Shailesh Kumar, Keshav Belalu, Sunitha, Nalin Kumar Kumar Kateel, Padmanab Kottary among others visited the family.

This is the true ease of Politician and police involvement and great co-ordination between them. This happend before this will happen again again as long as our judiciary system revolutionized. As long our corrupt politicians are ruling this is norm in India, will continue and outside media will watch and laugh at us looking our present justice system.

As days pass by, gradually poor little Sowmya fades away from our memories. Time and again its proven that the legal system in our country is a joke. The real culprits apparently belonging to respectable families are closely watching the happenings and bidding time so public soon forgets the episode. For sure they have a good backing up by some vested interests.
During the home stay attack, we had the various College unions crowding the streets with banners and shouting foul at top of their voices. Local politicians took time off from their homes and walked in Morchas sweating in the hot sun swaying their paunches in their white shirts.
Numerous youth parties mushroomed in support . All these groups tried to capitalize on the situation for political mileage, publicity stunt, recognition etc,
Why are all these hypocrites quiet now, this would be the right platform to show cause their strength and bring the culprits to task. As Sowmya is from a poor family this whole episode would not be of any political advantage for these perverts.
I don’t think they would sit tight if it had happened to their own daughters/sisters let’s pray this does not happen.

Very good comments by Benny Mangalore. There are thousands of mental disorders and people suffering from certain mental illness can commit rape and murder. But when they do it, there is perfection in it. They are called psychopaths and are known to commit the crime repeatedly in a similar way until they are caught. Circumstantial evidence from the scene of the crime shows that, this is most probably an act by more than 2-3 people. Santhosh does not look like a psychopath, but maybe suffering from one of the most common disorder - schizophrenia (I could be wrong). This case clearly shows the total inability of the police as they are briefing the public without any formal evidence. An accused is not guilty until proved otherwise by the court of law. Let's hope that all the evidence is gathered by the investigating team and the culprits are brought to justice. If Santhosh is the actual accused, let us hope once again that he is fit for prosecution so that justice would be done to the departed soul and her family.

Looks like the investigations started in a wrong direction. Some people caught hold of this person from somewhere and handed over to police without any proof. I don't think anyone will have idea on what basis this man is caught. The only thing that convinces me is that this person identified the crime spot (he took the police to the exact spot of crime as given in the news)which means he is involved in some way.

Again, it is a clear proof of hasty and unorganized investigation. It will only help the real culprits to get away. Do we have any forensic/DNA analysis. If we disturb the scene instead of cordoning it off on time and collect all possible evidences this is the result. Can't blame police, they are one among us. Only they need advanced education and training. Sooner we realize this better instead of blaming police, laws. Our borida gaadi mentality has to change.

Indeed a scape goat and both politician and police involved. You cannot call a person insane / mental when he commits a crime so perfect… when he knew how to rape and murder he is very sane and there should not be any other punishment for a pervert other than being hanged for the crime... but the question is, has he committed the crime or just trying to take the blame for someone else…

How shameful of the politician to offer the family a compensation of Rs 1 lac….. what are they providing monetary aid for? Is it to conduct final rites…. or a price tag for the girl’s life………

Also, what are Vinay Kumar Sorake, Ivan D’Souza, Rajashekar, Shailesh Kumar, Keshav Belalu, Sunitha, Nalin Kumar Kumar Kateel, Padmanab Kottaryvisiting visiting the family for??????? Trying to get some publicity for themselves by having their names published on website……….

In the past week alone more than a dozen rapes took place! It is continuing because rapists know that they can walk free without any punishment! Why rape is not taking in other countries as much as in India! Time to think!

If he is mental, I dont think he alone can do this crime. The seventeen year old girl is physically capable to resist the move and would most probably be able to slip out from the hands of the half-mad man and would run for the safety. My gut feelings say, more people could be behind the crime and Santhosh could be just a puppet at the hands of the children of some influential people of the area.

This week the young boys of Mangalore are circulating a sms through blackberry and wattsapp on why the secular parties did not protest on sowjanya murder case. They should question themselves what they did when young girls were molested and beaten up at Mangalore on end July 2012.The same ABVP women wing endorsed the beating and accused the girls for partying and dress code. The state minority commission chairman made useless speeches and useless reports.
Now on the ‘Sowjanya’ case the ABVP made protests in Mangalore to arrest t the culprits and now all of a sudden become mute spectators upon the police investigations. The people who prepare these messages should also read and watch video’s published on daijiworld about the speeches of their sponsor leaders who teach them how to dress and how to attack.

He may be sexually starved or may not be into relationships due to lack of social skills and bad grooming. One day he looks at a school girl and attacks her like a beast. Quiet possible but why he killed her?. In society where we have deprived peaple like santhosh results in more crime , as they try to do things by force , often killing someone. Just think about this , if santhosh had a usual life like others , he might have thought million times before doing this heinous act.

I pray to god almighty to give her family the strength to bear the loss of such a sweet girl and let the culprit be cut into pieces.

The SP is telling lies and this case should be dealt by Police commissioner. Definitely there are more people involved. Mentally sick person cannot tie her hands alone without others help. The case may be given to fast track for speedy investigation. How come mentally sick person is fond of sex and how nicely he can abduct a girl? Police need to make more arrest to solve the incident. The culprits must be stoned to death.

Why Sanghis are not in the street to demand punishment for the culprit? Just imagine if the culprit would have been from minority communities all sanghis would be in the streets.

Looks like our Police are still living in stone age. The young girl was raped. Obviously there are DNA samples of the culprits (Hair, nails, semen etc)near the vicinity of the crime scene. They need to see whether they tally with this mentally ill person before even comming to this conclusion of his guilt.

Police should be more careful before claiming the case is completely solved. They should complete proper investigation, gather unflinching forensic evidence before going public. The flip pop suggests that the police are under immense pressure from the public and the person may be a ‘Scapegoat’ for incompetence of the Police.
