Bangalore: Three Students Die as Bike Rams Truck

Bangalore, Dec 26 (DHNS): Three students, including two studying engineering, were killed when a two-wheeler which they were riding rammed a stationary garbage truck at Hulimavu Monday night.

The three were identified as Atul Kumar Sharma, 21, Mohammed Aslam, 20, and Vinay Kumar Thakur, 22, all from Himachal Pradesh.

Thakur, the owner of the two-wheeler, was riding it. The accident occurred at around
11.30 pm when a BBMP truck carrying garbage was parked right on the middle of the road at Hulimavu. The driver of the truck was not around. He had also not switched on the parking lights, the police said.

It is the first major accident after the Hulimavu traffic police station was established two months ago.
Sharma was a third semester student of Mechanical engineering in City Engineering College on Kanakapura Main Road, while Aslam was in second semester of BBM at the Nobel School of Business in JP Nagar. Thakur was doing a correspondence course at the Indian Institute of Electronics and Telecommunications at Ganganagar.

All the three fell down and sustained multiple injuries. Sharma and Aslam were killed on the spot, following massive bleeding, while Thakur, who was not wearing a helmet, was fighting for life. A few passersby noticed him and alerted the police, who admitted Thakur to Nimhans. He died later, the police said.

The truck driver absconded after the accident. The police have booked a case against him.

The trio came to the City two years ago for higher education and were staying at a house at Hulimavu.

The police have informed their parents in Himachal Pradesh. Mohammad Aslam’s uncle, also named Mohammad Aslam, is an employee with the Central Industrial Security Force Immigration Department in the City.

The parents of the victims have authorised him to collect the bodies after post-mortem at Victoria Hospital. Their bodies will be flown to Himachal Pradesh.
