Coach Labbadia extends deal with Stuttgart

Berlin, Jan 31 (IANS): Bundesliga team Stuttgart agreed with coach Bruno Labbadia and his assistant Eddy Soezer on a contract extension until June 2015.

The Stuttgart saga came to an end as the club and Labbadia along with Soezer announced the renewal of the current contract Wednesday, reports Xinhua.

The 46-year-old former German striker with Italian background joined the club in Dec 2010 in a struggling situation to lead the club back into international competitions, such as the UEFA Europa League.

"In the past two years Bruno Labbadia has done a great job. He joined the club in a difficult situation, developed the team and led them back on an international level," Stuttgart president Gerd Maeuser said.

The director of sport Fredi Bobic added: "We are very satisfied with the work of Labbadia and Soezer therefore we put our trust into them."

Labbadia on his contract extension said: "Since our arrival we continued unconditionally our path and we are still far away from reaching the end of it. I'm happily looking forward to our cooperation in the future."

Stuttgart sit currently in 11th with 25 points and a four point gap to the UEFA Europa League play-off spots.

The 'Swabians' face newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf at the 20th round of Bundesliga Saturday.
