Mangalore: Three injured in hit-and-run accident, culprits escape

Mangalore, Feb 27: In a hit-and-run case that occured near Patel House, Nagori here on Wednesday February 27, three persons were injured while the culprits managed to escape.

An auto rickshaw was ferrying two lady passengers from Kankanady railway station towards the city, when a speeding Indica Vista car moving from B C Road to Mangalore rammed into it.

The impact of the accident was such that the auto rickshaw got thrown into a roadside ditch, injuring the passengers as well as the auto driver.

The Indica car, however, sped away without stopping. Angered by this, people who were at the spot began chasing the vehicle.

The occupants of the car, frightened by the people's reaction, sped towards Garodi, where they took a left turn into a lane. However, it was a dead end and they were forced to stop. The four of them got out from the car and escaped by the time people reached the spot.

The four, all young men, are said to be students. They are yet to be identified.

The injured, whose identities are yet to be established, have been admitted to a hospital in the city. They are said to be badly hurt.

Inspector Ravish Naik of Kankanady rural police visited the spot.

A hit-and-run case has been registered in the Kankanady rural police station. A hunt for the accused is on.

    Edward, I completely agree with u..However the reality in India is that public opinion is always biased against the bigger vehicle. Does NOT really matter whose fault it is...carwala hamesha galat hai...even if that carwala is working hard day and night to earn a decent living. I am in NO WAY saying what those did was right but I guess They hardly had any choice. Unless the root causes are addressed, given the same situation, the same 4 epople are bound to act in more or less similar way again

    How do u account the faulty driver ,there are no road and lane markings even though there is such wide roads every one drives as they wish even main road entry is rash ,also the pedestrian crossing near the Hampankatta signal is not monitored even when the police is standing there people just walk even when the signal is on we the drivers have to stop and give way to them even as t police just looks on .Please the Traffic police have to implement the existing laws to make life easier.

    Well, the driving rule and ethics are the one who enters main road is suppose to make a complete stop, look left and right, and make sure it is safe for him to merge with the flow of vehicle. Looks like the Rikshaw guy must have barged into the main road in a hurry or just carelessly.

    Having sped, the driver of the car must stop the vehicle on the spot and if he is fearful of the crowd, he could have gone straight to the police station for reporting the accident.

    The accidents caused by speeding vehicle are ever on the increase.

    It is true that a vehicle merging into the main road has to wait until safety is ensured and then only the vehicle cacjoin the main road. However the speeding car on the main road should have halted and the driver should have rendered help to the injured instead of having recourse to HIT AND RUN.

    With a Police force that we have in Mangalore, it will not be long before the driver of the car is booked.

    If Public beat also can bear but can not bear the hospital bill that also 4 person!!!
    If 4 people stay back on the spot means, hospital bill car repair bill would have been more than the worth of the damaged car SMART DECISION

    While escaping from the scene of an accident is in no way the right thing to do, it seems to be the only option occupants of the accident causing vehicle sometimes have. The public is always too anxious to mete out their version of "civilian justice" - beating them black and blue - without even pausing to find out who was right and who was wrong. And well.. as it is in the movies, in India the police always arrives in the end!

    Why are the names of the occupants of the car not disclosed ? The people responsible for such accidents should be exposed.The accident that took place near maryhill last week , the driver's identity was not revealed.

    As the report says the auto was coming from the railway station and was entering the highway. The picture also says the same story. If this is the case, it must be the fault of the vehicle entering the highway and not the vehicle plying on the highway. As per the rule the vehicle entering any main road must first stop look both sides and enter the main road only after ensuring there are no on coming vehicles.
    All said and done, the occupants of the car must have stopped and called the police and assisted in medical emergency immediately. Running wont help them in anyway. Now that a hit and run case has been registered against them. But again, would the public there have spared them if they stayed back? That is left to our imagination.

    Catch these guys. They need helcopter torture. The worst thing is to hit and run. For all I know the car may have been stolen. I wish the injured a speedy recovery.
