Mangalore, Mar 15: Thieves broke into a house at Kadike, Padupanambur village, Mulky here on the early hours of Friday March 15 and made away with gold worth Rs 4.8 lac and Rs 10,000 in cash.

House owner Raj Kumar in his complaint has informed that his family members were watching television till midnight, before retiring to bed. The theft came to light on Friday morning.

The thieves opened the almirah with the help of keys found below the cot in the bed room used by Raj Kumar. A long chain, a necklace, two chains, four finger rings, a necklace of pearls, bangles and earrings, altogther weighing 16 sovereigns and cash were found missing.

Raj Kumar, working as a teacher in Talapady government high school, had constructed a house at Kadike and settled there about four years back. His wife, Asha Kumar, serves as teacher in a private school at Suratkal. It is likely that the thieves had used some chemical substances to ensure that the family members did not wake up during the theft.

Fingerprint experts and snifter dogs were rushed to the spot. The Mulky police, who have registered a case, have begun investigation.

@Mr Shiva and @Mr Rudolf Thanks for your comment

Some time most of them will keep the distance between door and window almost very near like hand usable distance
also some of them will neglect to lock other then door key lock d inside manual lock while go for bed
Inner manual lock should be upper ,middle, down along with door key lock as well sometimes most of them depend upon door key only
House exit door should be minimum
Yes both of you said rightly robbery has been increased all over better keep all the gold in bank

@Shiva Kota, I agree with your views bro! There is no lock thieves cannot break! If not the lock they will prise open the latch itself which most of the times is weak resting on a few screws!! As you said, I too feel the gold bars, bundles of notes being put in hundis is a percentage of illgotten wealth which is offered to the favorite deities to appease them!! They have percentage sharing with Gods too....hehe!!

Symatize with this family's loss. Appears like well organized house breaking gangs have got a strong foothold in coastal Karnataka looking at the increasing daredevil looting! Buying and hoarding gold is the biggest hobby in India! It is better to buy govt. gold bonds instead of wasting money on jewelery, which if one goes to sell back too gets much lesser that what one paid!! Till this madness of hoarding gold in houses these burglaries will never stop!!

Indian households hold 18,000 tonnes of gold which represents 11% of the global stock and worth more than US$1 Trillion. There is a very high probability that a successful theft will yield upwards of Rs.5 Lac.

Theft and robberies are daily news of media and it is indeed a DISTURBING FACTOR.Police can't give 24x7x365 days security for all residents.I think finger printing should make mandatory for all residents so that suck kind of robbery/theft/murders etc could be brought down. Some are how,@this rate of incidents in twin districts makes police sleepless nights and indeed a challenge as well.

It is dangerous to keep valuables especially gold ornaments in a country like India where crime rate is too high. What disgust me is that in many countries in Europe pople have glass doors and glass window panes. What will these thieves do there?
