Chennai, Mar 16 (IANS): India's second-largest tractor maker TAFE will soon train women in farm management, including driving tractors and using implements.

In a statement Saturday, Tractors and Farm Equipment Ltd. (TAFE) said that following the success of the company's lab-to-land initiative to train the farming community, it has decided to extend the programme to women farmers.

A pilot project to train women farmers in farm management, which includes soil conservation, pest management, yield improvement, tractor driving and implement usage, will be launched soon, it said.

The company had Friday organised a 'Farmer's Day' near Bangalore in Karnataka focussing on horticulture. The event saw participation of around 350 farmers including women farmers.

Farm scientists and experts from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Indian Institute of Horticulture and TAFE touched upon improving the output of fruits such as mango, grapes, sapota, banana, guava and papaya and vegetables such as cauliflower, cabbage, brinjal and tomato.
