Two legislators who beat up cop surrender to police

Mumbai, Mar 21 (IANS): Two Maharashtra legislators surrendered Thursday to the the Mumbai police after they were booked for assaulting a policeman at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan two days ago.

The legislators - Ram Kadam and Kshitij Thakur - surrendered to the Crime Branch. Kadam and Thakur are among five MLAs suspended for assaulting assistant police inspector Sachin Suryawanshi on the first floor of the Vidhan Bhavan Tuesday afternoon.

A police officer said the two legislators would be produced in court after they are put through a medical examination. The police is likely to seek custody of the two so they can be questioned further.

The five MLAs who assaulted Suryawanshi are independent legislators Kshitij Thakur and Pradeep Jaiswal, Shiv Sena's Rajan Salvi, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's Ram Kadam and BJP's Jaikumar Rawal.

The provocation for the attack was that Suryawanshi stopped Thakur's speeding vehicle on the Rajiv Gandhi Bandra-Worli Sea Link Monday morning. The legislators pounced on police official when they saw him at the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan the next day.

The so called Legislators, MLAs think once you are elected, you have the power to bend the law as they like. No one is above law irrespective on who they are, follow the lead from USA & UK. All of them should surrender to Police and court should decide their fate.
This will be a good example for common man, people serving Govt.and those in Politics too.
