Mangalore, Mar 23: Robbers tricked a family and looted them of gold and cash worth around Rs 2 lacs near Euro Gold jewellery store at Kankanady here on Saturday March 23.

Roshan and Belvira D'Souza, residents of Kuthar, along with their children had parked their car near Euro Gold while on their way after shopping at a mall. Roshan went away to buy a spare part for the car, while his wife and children waited in the car.

While Roshan was away, an unknown person approached Belvira and said that some currency notes belonging to them had fallen on the road on the driver's side.

Believing the person, Belvira got out of the car and began to look for the currency notes.

Meanwhile, another person, without her notice, opened the car door and stealthily made away with a bag that was on the seat.

It was later found that the ten-rupee notes were dropped on the road by the culprit himself to detract Belvira.

The bag contained gold worth Rs 2 lac, some cash, two ATM cards and a driving licence.

The culprits are said to have walked away, but no one suspected them until the robbery was discovered. It was only after they had escaped that the young children mentioned about the man opening the car door.

It is said that it might have been the handiwork of people who might have kept a watch on their movements.

Kadri police arrived at the spot. A case has been registered in the Kuthar police station.

Speaking to daijiworld, Belvira narrated the above incident and said they were hopeful that the Euro Gold CCTV camera might have captured the incident and help the police in tracing the culprits.

This is the result of inflow of strangers in our coastal region. since last seven to eight years these kind of crimes increased. majority of our origin locals( mostly womens) are unaware of outsiders activities. so easy prey of strangers. our local media, self helf groups, ward meetings should focus on such issues.

People from Mangalore are very innocent and good hearted. We still live same like we used to live some years ago.We trust,we believe,we like to help, and share. These are only the few qualities I have mentioned among the many good qualities of mangaloreans. Understanding the ability of criminal mind is beyond our thinking, and this is one of the main reason we are easily get trapped/tricked.We need to be more alert and careful with strangers. Until & unless we know them well,we should't let them in.Adopt Mumbai policy "JUST IGNORE THEM".Mangalore is changing.Sky rocketing buildings are coming up.Resident population is increasing and the city is becoming big busy day by day.Unskilled workers from rural areas are pouring in.Many of the construction workers are hired from different states.Police need to be more vigilant, and work hard to safe guard mangloreans. Deploy secret police among the crowd same like US,and I am sure we will be more safer.

    Dear Police team and Public,

It time daring acts like these need to stop.
With out handicapped police force and Indian law, people like these thieves and rapists are becoming bolder day by day.

Just imagine if they are so bold to rob during the daylight, what they may do in the night!!

Public, looks like we need to be vigilant not only of our things but also of our neighbours things. Today it may be others, but tomorrow you may be targeted.

Also wish that the unemployed, uneducated youth instead of fighting for culture and hitting women, would fight for the country against incidents like these and thrash the thieves.

I was also a victim of a same kind of trick, two years ago but God intervened I should say. I was waiting for my wife outside Vegetable market, mangalore. Someone came and showed me notes fallen outside my car. I went out picked up the notes and came inside the car. Didn't notice my wife's purse missing until my wife came from the market and asked me about it. A frantic search, police complaint ensued. But in about an hour later we got a call from someone near Hampankatta Clock tower that a purse was found and it was identified by my wife's card in it. People did not touch it fearing some bomb might be in it. We went there with the police, found the purse, and found all the contents intact...20,000/- cash, locker keys, pass books etc. THANK GOD!

I had the same experience while driving in the heart of the city one Young boy stopped me asking a direction of the shop and meanwhile other one opened the door and took my hand bag where i lost all my papaers money and valuables. It was well planned and i was not able to stop the vehicle neither shout. It was too late wheni realised. So beware of such robbers.

This trick is catching up but still people are not careful. Just last month or so this same type of trick was played. The thief told the driver that he has ped some currency notes on the street and when he went to pick it up a bag containing lakhs of rupees was gone. The owner of the car had gone to another office leaving the car and driver. This is exactly what happened to Belvira. If they are lucky they might get the gold and other things back by running through the CCTV camera if that shop had one. This is a lesson for others who are shopping.

20,000 Tonnes of Gold worth US$1.16 Trillion is lying idle in Indian Households and an additional 1,000 tonnes of gold is imported each year by the Indian Govt.

80% of Indians live on less than $2 a day and when they see so much liquidity available in their neighborhood obviously theft will flourish, to make things worse there is absolute lack of law and order in India which serves as an ideal playground for thieves.

General Public requested to take care while coming out from Jewelry shopping.5-6 years back I did purchase Jewelry and as a compliment, jeweler gave me a carry bag(suitcase like) and that gold packet was kept in the Bag.But immediately I took the jewelry out of bag and placed in a secure place(not in a big bag)What I mean to say is there must be people (thieves)watching/monitoring those who enters Gold shop and such kind mischief heard earlier also.Since it is happened near EURO GOLD SHOP, there may be CCTV which can help out to nab the thieves.
